Rebuild Springfield after a nuclear disaster
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is an arcade game where you can create your own version of The Simpsons' Springfield, complete with all the classic characters from the popular cartoon.
What has he done this time?
Homer is responsible for a nuclear meltdown that takes out the city of Springfield and it's your job to help him build it back up. The Simpsons: Tapped Out features a ton of items and characters to unlock. You can re-imagine what Springfield is like by rebuilding the entire city.
The Simpsons: Tapped Out does a good job of balancing freedom with side quests. You can completely ignore the tasks and do your own thing or complete tasks for bigger rewards. This gives the gameplay some direction without forcing players down a linear path.
The game also retains the TV show’s sharp and self-aware sense of humor. Tapped Out is aware that it’s a game based on a somewhat irritating “freemium” game model.
The title explains the controls
As the name of the game implies, you’ll be tapping. A lot. Each character has a list of tasks that they can perform, each of which takes a varying amount of time. Tasks that take longer will yield more money and experience points.
Almost all these tasks simply involve tapping a building or a character. You’ll collect money to purchase houses, decorations, and other items. There are also donuts that you use to speed up tasks and construction.
Another aspect of The Simpsons: Tapped Out is that you can redesign Springfield. Like most city-builders, you can drag and drop buildings on the map and construct roads throughout the city.
Looks just like the TV show
The graphics in Tapped Out are one of the high points of the game. The city and characters look as if they are in the TV show. Having such a high-quality depiction makes it a treat to play and endears you to Bart and the gang.
The sound is also of an excellent quality. The characters are voiced by the same actors from the TV show.
It's just tapping. But enjoyable tapping.
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a fun time waster but its gameplay may become repetitive.
